The land grab threatens to destroy the fading dynasty
Scenario
With the massive Lawson cattle station without a successor, rival Australian factions see an opportunity to seize control. The series was filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia, in places so remote they are barely inhabited – let alone screened. Locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the traditional owners – and Tipperary Station, a real working cattle station so big it has its own airport and school.
Yes, it will be compared to Yellowstone
Yes, it has the same over-the-top plots, conflicts and crazy characters. Yes, you can point to many similar problems. For me, the two main problems are things that happen simply because they need to drive the plot.
Things that make no sense
The patriarch of the family simply decides on succession without considering the pros and cons of each option. Secondly, there are plot holes that exist for similar reasons to move the plot forward. The station is supposed to be the size of Belgium, but it is run by a family (initially 4 members, then a bit more) and what seems to be a skeleton crew.
Tensions build, conflicts deepen, passions flare
But of course, greedy corporations try to take that money away from them. I also didn’t like the way it all developed. and then it’s all resolved (sort of) in half an hour.
The camerawork is good, the nature is beautiful
But it’s not a bad series if you can look past that.
